We’ve had the chance to try out a lot of different skins for the PlayStation 4 lately, so we thought it was a good time to try out one for the PlayStation 4 controller. We had our good friends over at SkinIt send us out a wood looking to try out.
Finding a PS4 skin that actually stays on and doesn’t peel off can actually be difficult to find. With testing over 4 different companies, we have finally found a skins company worthy to buy! What makes Toast Made skins different is they are made from REAL wood! They are not stickers.
1. This is way cooler than a sticker
2. It’s way easier to add a wood skin to something then a floppy sticker
Toast Made Bamboo Video Review
Do you have a Playstation skin or have you been thinking about getting one for your PS4 or one of your older models? Here is a informative video to show you whether or not having a skin will ruin your Playstation or not. This skin was on my PS4 for about a year and a half, so if there was anyway to see if the glue and adhesive would ruin the casing then this was the perfect way to find out!
The skin that we had on there was from Decalgirl, the skin was thick and a duct tape material with an extremely sticky adhesive.
DecalGirl PS4 Dark Rose Wood Skin
One thing that I’ve really wanted to try out is a skin that goes over my PS4. I personal hate the black look; it’s plain and doesn’t stand out. The DecalGirl Dark Rose Wood cover is exactly what I was looking for to make my PS4 stand out. Their cheap (depending on what product you want the price changes) and they have great customer service. Please take a look at the PS4 before and after I apply the skin. I am very pleased with the way the product turned out.
This is the part that started to really aggravate me. If you have ever put on a screen protector on any of your devices then you can get a sense of how this will be. While you are installing this it is extremely important you follow the directions. If you don’t then you can risk the chance of messing up the skin. You need to whip the product off as best as you can (do NOT use a cleaner) to get rid of any dust or hair.
What I found to be the best method was to use 2 people for this job. When you are applying the skin you have to be extremely careful that you do not pull on the skin. They are extremely fragile and that will stretch. If you stretch the skin then it may not fit well on the product. You also have to make sure you don’t touch the sticky end to the skin its self or anything else but, the product you’re applying it to. It took be about 15-20 minutes to get the skin on the PS4. It only took me this long because I was trying to be as careful as I could to bot get bubbles or stretch the skin.
The only recommendation I would make for DecalGirl are as followed:
- It would be easier to apply the skins if they were thicker. Because they are so thin It makes it incredible difficult to apply it to your product. Also because it is so thin the chances of stretching the product increases.
Overall I am extremely pleased with the way the skin turned out on my product. I love how real the wood looks and it looks great when the PS4 light is on. I would rate this product a 4 out of 5 stars only because how difficult the installation was. My installation turned out great besides for one corner that got stretched and folded over.
I would however recommend DecalGirl to anyone who is looking for awesome skins for any of your products. They have hundreds of designs, and if they don’t have one you like you can make a custom one! The prices are also extremely reasonable as well.
If you would like to check out their designs of purchase your own skin then you can find Decalgirl here. Also, watch out for our review of a Mac Book Air 13” as we also apply a skin to that product as well!
